Casual Style

I used to be anti "comfy clothes". I mean I wear comfortable clothing, but never, not ever, lounge wear (with the exception of sleeping, duh). I work from home editing photos, answering emails, and other random desk tasks, and for some reason people assume that I must sit around in my pajamas all day. Well those people would be wrong. I put on an outfit and jewelry and makeup every day, regardless of whether I'll leave the house or not. Clothes are my creative outlet and put together outfits also help me focus better.

So all that to say, I was surprised when I fell in love with slouchy pants. And thanks to Loft for making pants that are not only comfortable, but fashionable and flattering. I mean they made lace sweatpants! Can't get much better than that!

Some other drapey pants that I'm loving: one, two, three, four

The key to making outfits work with slouchy pants is to keep the top simple and fitted. You don't want to be drowning in fabric. It's important to remember to show that you still have a feminine shape. It's also important to pay attention to the details and tailoring of the pants. If the legs are too wide and the fabric too thin, they can easily look like pajama pants. To keep the look from being too casual and boyish, I added sparkle (because sparkle makes everything better). This necklace can just as easily be worn with a tshirt as it can with a little black dress. Just because something looks "fancy", doesn't mean that it can't be dressed down.

What's something in your closet that you feel is too fancy for every day wear? How can you dress it down? Have you or would you try the slouchy pants trend? Tell me in the comments below.
